Sandakan, formerly known at various times as Elopura, is the second-largest town in Sabah after Kota Kinabalu City, on the North-eastern coast of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Sandakan district is known as an eco-tourist destination, with the orangutan rehabilitation station in Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, the Turtle Islands Park, the Kinabatangan River and the Gomantong Caves.
