Iban people make up the first ethnic group in Sarawak, mostly living by the border with Kalimantan, Indonesia. Once they were historically infamous as headhunters and fierce warriors, but today they are known to be peaceful rural people who make a life out of agriculture and farming activities in Sarawak’s large countryside. Their customs, usage and traditions, as well as their own language, are completely different from any other inhabitant of Borneo and the rest of Malaysia.

With this tour you can experience the real Iban daily life by staying at an authentic Iban longhouse. Your Iban host family will share their daily routine, such as the traditional food preparation and more of the tribe habits and traditional work. You will also enjoy with them the surrounding environment made of forest, trails and rivers as the longhouse is located in the middle of the forest of Batang Ai, one of the most pristine of Sarawak. To reach the longhouse you will explore much of the Sarawak’s countryside by land and boat.

Ibans are well known for their hospitality. During your stay at the longhouse you will sleep in one of their room, sharing the common areas as a friend or a relative. It’s a very simple and austere lifestyle, but genuinely authentic and in perfect harmony with the nature. The tour starts from the city center of Kuching or your hotel lobby. If you’re carrying a heavy or cumbersome baggage, we suggest you to leave it for safekeeping at your accommodation’s luggage storage in Kuching town.  Since the destination is in the middle of the forest, a suitable outfit is warmly recommended for your stay. Bring mosquito and insects repellent.
