Dive into the colours, sounds and atmosphere of Kota Belud town market, 75 km North from Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah. It’s one of the oldest and most folkloristic open markets still going on in Sabah. It is known locally as “Tamu” (market), one of the largest of the area, where literally everything can be found, bought, traded. There are fishermen, farmers, artisans, grocery sellers, you can even find cattle for sale, such as water buffalos. The place is very bustling and animated, especially when people discuss and bargain the goods.
Since the market is not far from Kota Kinabalu, it’s an interesting opportunity to visit, to better understand the countryside life of Sabah and the culture of the Sabahan people expressed through their daily life. A visit to the market represent also a precious opportunity to try local food or buy local crafts in an area that is not as touristy as the city of Kota Kinabalu.
You can book this tour only on Sundays as the market is only scheduled once per week.
