Kota Kinabalu is Sabah’s capital city, the biggest center in the North-West Borneo. Often named by its initials ‘KK’ or ‘api-api’ (meaning “fire” in Malay) lies by the coast overlooking South China Sea. It’s an important center for the travellers who wants to explore Sabahan nature, being a hub for the main destinations in the area – such as islands and mountains (the famous Mount Kinabalu is in this region). Furthermore, Sabah (and Borneo in general) is home to one of the oldest rainforest in the world. The mount Kinabalu, which carries the same name as the city, is the highest mountain in Borneo (and in the whole Malaysia) with 4,095.2 meters or 13,435 ft above sea level, and it’s located to a mere 90 km distance from the city.
This travel plan is ideal for those just getting into Kota Kinabalu and wish to see the city and its surroundings before proceeding further or heading back at the airport. The tour includes a whole day to hike around Mount Kinabalu and its forest, transfer from/to the airport (or other destinations depending on your schedule and plans) and 2 nights in one of the accommodations of your preference; on the second day, have a stroll in the Kinabalu National Park, discover the rainforest and have a thrilling experience walking on the tree-top Canopy Walkway where you can experience a bird-view of the rainforest. We will take you to a tea factory and to admire the tea plantations. If you’re lucky you may see a rafflesia, the largest known flower in the world.
We suggest you to have a waterproof backpack, suitable shoes and outfit, mosquito repellent, a raincoat, a hat, a swimsuit, a towel and a canteen.
