This half day trip is travel idea suitable for nature lovers who want to see something different without driving far from Kuala Lumpur.
Despite the country has taken steps in becoming an industrialised country, it’s still possible to see wild animals in Malaysia when moving out of inhabited areas and cities, and while driving from one place to another, alongside the rivers or countryside roads.
During this trip you’ll probably spot many langur monkeys, a species of monkey which are common to see in Kuala Selangor National Park. Once arrived at the Selangor River, a powerboat will take you to explore the river and its mangroves forest – you will see the eagles approaching your boat up close when the boatman will throw some fishes at them, and possibly the rare white-bellied sea eagle.
When back to the pier you will be served a fish dinner before taking a second river cruise. This is going to be the real highlight of your half day trip experience, when the river will be well-lighted by thousands and thousands of fireflies moving between mangroves in the river, creating a unique and unforgettable sight.
Once back again to the pier the driver will leave back to Kuala Lumpur, ending the tour.
Please note that the tour leading to see fireflies is organized in groups by the local fishermen who are also the owners of the boats used for that part of the trip. Hence you may not be alone during the excursion to see fireflies. Although it’s a rare chance that there will be little or no fireflies, it can’t be guaranteed that you will see them or their amount can’t be predicted. Be a responsible visitor and do not harm the fireflies environment. We recommend to have with you: a waterproof backpack, a pair of comfortable shoes (or sandals if preferred), suitable outfit, a hat or sunscreen to protect you against the sun, a raincoat in case of rain, water and tissues.
