Malacca: crossroad of history
Any amount of people can join.

Malacca is considered the oldest town of Malaysia with its 700 years of history and beyond. It’s the first of Malaysian ports to gather traders and ships from different continents and lands, stretching as far as Europe, the Arab peninsula and China. Through arabs, Islam made its way to Malaysia. Some Chinese traders established themselves permanently in Malacca and other shores of West Malaysia, later known as Peranakan or Baba Nyonya. The city was occupied by European powers as early as 1521, with the arrival of the Portuguese. One century later the Dutch took over, ruling the city for another 200 years until it was handed over to the British. What is left today of Malacca is resulting mixture of the passages of all these populations and cultures, layered in the stones of its buildings, in its roads, and even religions and foods. The city has been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.

We recommend you to book this trip on weekend (on a Friday or Saturday) as normally the city hosts a night market inside the historic centre with plenty of foods and handicrafts. It can get quite crowded during peak seasons and public holidays. Otherwise you can enjoy a very quiet city during the rest of the week. Most of the time, during this tour, you will be walking around and Malaysia can be both hot and wet in certain periods of the year. We recommend to have with you sunscreen and an umbrella or a raincoat. Bring water along or buy bottled on the spot.

Departure on private vehicle is scheduled from Kuala Lumpur (city or airport as agreed upon booking). On return, though, you may ask to proceed to another destination besides the capital – such as Singapore or elsewhere in the Peninsula. In this eventuality we need you to kindly inform us in advance at the time of booking.
